1.2 – Formative Assessment Using Technology

Below follows a short description of each tool, and each is linked to the respective website – so just click on the name for the full website.

Poll Everywhere

  • Live polls, displayed in presentation or free-standing.
  • Allows multiple inputs, like cell phone, Twitter, or through the web.

Google Docs

  • Online project suite, perfect for collaboration and quick formative assessment solutions.
  • Allows multiple inputs easily – use one document as posting space, leave comments, etc.

Google Forms

  • Quick surveys, that can be collected immediately, or for any length of time.
  • Many question formats make it highly flexible – multiple choice, paragraph, scale, etc.

Lino.It

  • Online stickies site, where users post their questions / answers, and organize data.
  • Allows for color coordination, image and video imports, etc.
  • Public or private walls.

Blogs, etc.

  • Allows open-ended responses to questions.
  • Easy to manage, and track participation.
  • Comment-on-comment provides timely feedback.

Online Portfolios with Evernote

  • A collection of work, over time.
  • Allows for easy spot checking for assessment.
  • Integrates nicely with learning targets – proof of learning.

Twitter

  • Quick notes, limited to 140 characters.
  • Easy to sort, easy to assess overall knowledge of subject.
  • Transparent due to public medium.

Wiffiti

  • Similar to Poll Everywhere, but uses a more graphic driven interface.
  • Not able to moderate or keep the responses, but allows for Twitter integration.
